Questons for Numbers Chapter 9 - 10/28/2025

  1. Why was it so important that the Israelites celebrate the Passover?

  2. Why did God have the Israelites move on a random schedule?

Recap from 10/21/2025

Numbers Ch.8

Chapter 8 reemphasizes the importance of the Levites. According to verse 11 they are a offering from the Israelites to God. Verses 5-10 explains how they were to groom themselves and what animal and plant sacrifices had to be made so that 'they may be ready to do the work of the Lord' (v.11)

What I found most interesting was verses 24-25:

24 “This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting, 25 but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. 2

God set up a retirement plan for His people! I wonder if it is the first retirement plan that companies follow to this day?

The retirement plan at my job is what keeps me faithful to it. I consider it a great benefit to have a guaranteed salary even after I stop working. It's a beautiful thing- and it was started by God Himself!

Once again He is showing his care for us. He made sure that we built a day of rest in each week as stated in Exodus 31:5:

For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.

And in Numbers He has set up a retirement for the people that worked in His temple. I see this as a blueprint that any business could follow.

  • Choosing a selfless leader (Moses)

  • Separating the sick from the healthy to keep infections from spreading.

  • Assigning different tribes their own duties and responsibilities (Genesis 49, Numbers 8).

  • Guiding on the places to live so that the community will thrive.

  • Establishing rules and regulations that keep everyone safe.

  • Teaching how to build structures that will last.

  • Encouraging the community to celebrate the wins of the past (Passover).

  • Self regulation and awareness through ceremony to prevent bad habits.

  • Providing a fair and balanced way to deal with opponents (Egypt).

  • And now — instituting a retirement plan!

This is a retirement plan at the age of 50 during a time when people could typically live to over 100 years old. I personally love this idea. With a few adjustments in our modern policies and lifestyles, it could benefit our economy today.

This is another example of how God is looking out for us. I imagine that God's ways were foreign to the Israelites. It was a time of training. God was helping His people see the world in a different way. They could do things that helped to control the overall health of their bodies as well as their community.

And they had better, because one day God would not have to dwell in the tabernacle or the Ark, or carefully chosen individuals, He will be dwelling within each of His believers who accepts Christ as their savior.

What a great employer to work for - one who is always looking out for what is best for us

Potluck Tuesday and Christmas Wrapping Party

Potluck Tuesday was also a suggestion from last semester. Anyone interested in doing a Potluck once a month? Open to suggestions on an ideal day and time we can do this.

Christmas wrapping party! Save the date December 17th.

What is a wrapping party? It is where we can bring our personal Christmas gifts to wrap in a fun, food-filled, camaraderie-filled environment. Invite others whom you think may benefit. Don't have much to wrap, then prepare to help others. Wrapping paper and tape will be available. Please feel free to donate any wrapping materials if you feel led.

Health goals

Pray and think about the goals that God has for your life. He has many, but one of the areas we concentrate on in Walk and Talk is our health. How do you think God wants us to care for ourselves? What steps are we taking to be the best person we can be?

See you Tuesday!!

Keep up with Cornerstone Events!
