Discussion Questions for Upcoming Numbers Chapter 22 - 04/14/2026
Why did God stop Balaam?
Why did God allow the donkey to talk?
Recap from Numbers CH.21 4/08/2026
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed with guilt because God has been so good to you in spite of your behavior, watching the Israelites should bring you some comfort.
There is a clear pattern throughout the book of Book of Numbers:complaining, followed by consequence, followed by God’s mercy.
Over and over again, the Israelites faced challenges—which is normal. But what stood out was their response. Their complaints often led to moments of judgment, yet God continually made a way to restore them.
If we look at Israel’s journey as a reflection of our own lives, we can see something deeper: God is not just concerned with what we go through—He is watching how we respond to it.
Once we accept His authority and protection over our lives, our responses begin to matter even more.
Examples from Israel’s journey:
Complaining led to fire breaking out among them (Numbers 11:1)
Craving what they didn’t have led to provision—but also a plague (Numbers 11:4–34)
Rebellion led to destruction and loss (Numbers 16)
Fear caused them to miss out on God’s promise and wander for 40 years (Numbers 14)
Now consider how this can show up in our own lives:
You may find yourself frustrated with a difficult situation—a demanding job, strained relationships, or unmet expectations. In those moments, it’s easy to focus on what feels unfair.
But sometimes, those situations reveal something deeper in us that needs to be adjusted.
Not every hardship is a direct judgment from God. However, our attitudes, decisions, and patterns do have consequences—whether immediate or over time.
In Chapter 21, after yet another round of complaints, God allowed venomous snakes to come among the people. Many were bitten.
But God also provided a way out.
He instructed Moses to lift up a bronze serpent, and anyone who looked at it would live.
“Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” (Numbers 21:8)
They weren’t asked to perform rituals, recite long prayers, or prove themselves through effort. They simply had to look.
The text says they lived. It doesn’t go into detail about what they felt afterward—but it does highlight something important: God provided a way for them to be saved, even after their repeated disobedience.
This moment also echoes something much bigger.
In the Book of Genesis, a serpent was part of humanity’s fall into sin. But later, in the Gospel of John, Jesus is described as being “lifted up,” just like the serpent in the wilderness—so that anyone who believes in Him may have life.
What Israel experienced physically points to what we experience spiritually.
We all fall short. We all carry things we shouldn’t. But God’s response is not to abandon us—it is to provide a way back.
And often, that way is simpler than we expect.
It begins with turning our focus back to Him.
Even after repeated failure, God did not turn His back on Israel.
And He does not turn His back on us.
His love remains. Always.

Workout TIp!
Water!
Hydrated bodies help to keep our bodies flexible, our moods elevated and our muscles and brain energized.
Here is a video on the science behind the importance of water.
Spritually, water represents Jesus. We have to have both to live! He is the living water. We would not exist without Him and the example that He set for us when he came to earth.
The same way that we need to drink water on a daily basis, we need to invest our time communicating with Jesus through prayer, Bible readings and Bible studies, worship and fellowship.
