  2. What is the purpose of any offering?

  3. Why do the Israelites bring incense as a part of their offering?

  4. Where did Moses hear God's voice?

Recap from 10/07/2025

Numbers Ch.6

The word 'Nazirite' sounded familiar, but I wasn't sure how it fit in with Israel. Maybe it was a very special group of Levites who cared for the innermost sanctity of the Temple? Maybe they were the praise and worship team? The maintenance crew?

Actually I discovered that they were none of these. According to God, any Isaelite could become a Nazirite. All they had to do was:

  • Live a holy lifestyle

  • Stay away from dead bodies (even if its a close relative),

  • Stay away from all fermented drink, and

  • Consume no part of a grape (not even the juice or raisins).

And by the way, the most interesting thing they could not do was cut their hair.

After a designated amount of time the Nazirite ends the fast by presenting two one-year-old lambs without defect - one for a burnt offering (total surrender for sin) and one for atoning for a specific sin,

Well, this was interesting but -not meaning to sound selfish or greedy- I have learned that God does not recommend or demand anything this strenuous from us without a reason.

So what would be the point in offering this fast?

I flipped to the next chapter (7) to see if there was more of an explanation.

There wasn't.

So I read the chapter before it to see if it contained any context clues as to why God would ask for volunteers to put themselves through this.

No clues in chapter 5 either.

I have to admit that even as I searched, there was something familiar about the fact that they could not cut their hair but I just could not recall the connection. Since it was bugging me and I was finding no immediate answer, I broke down and asked Google.

Familiar biblical names popped up. One of them stood out.

Sampson. Sampson and his long hair!

He couldn't cut his hair and he was considered a Nazirite. But he wasn't the only Nazirite. Other names mentioned were Samuel and John the baptist.

I knew it! I knew God had his reasons for such a difficult fast. The fruit from the Nazirite offerings of these men were amazing. Sampson, for example, was strong and undefeatable until he broke his Nazirite fast

What does this have to do with us?

Well, the Bible only mentions a few Nazirites by name but I am sure that there were many mighty Nazirites doing awesome things through the specific gifts that God gave them.

Maybe there was a Nazarite teacher, musician, builder, seamstress, chef, parent, soon to be husband or wife, They didn't get mentioned in the Bible but that doesn't mean that they were any less important and mighty in their own small circles.

Can you imagine being blessed with a community full of Nazirites?

Let's all pray and ask for ways we can make offerings that would be pleasing to God.

other comments:

Joan (was given permission to use her name)

I thought that the Nazirites came from a particular city we had not heard of. For example the Nazirites came from Nazirine.

I believe that God was trying to build a new and might people after the flood. He was trying to reinforce our faith in Him so that we weren't so easily and quickly corrupted.

I agree Joan, we can be so easily corrupted.

Joan shared that she is taking a class on how important it is to be prepared to present our personal testimonies. She explained how to tie it to your life's work,

Prayer requests:

  • Safety, protection and healing over all Walk and Talkers and their families

  • Quick healing over Sammantra's son

  • Healing and repairing of Frances' ankle

  • For God to not only physically provide for Joan's friend and her family but also provide physical and mental strength

  • Venus' dad who has recovered from cancer but needs all malignant small nodes on lungs to be destroyed

  • Praying for all of us to have an encounter with God in our own unique ways.

Potluck Tuesday and Christmas Wrapping Party

Potluck Tuesday was also a suggestion from last semester. Anyone interested in doing a Potluck once a month? Open to suggestions on an ideal day and time we can do this.

Christmas wrapping party! Save the date December 17th.

What is a wrapping party? It is where we can bring our personal Christmas gifts to wrap in a fun, food-filled, camaraderie-filled environment. Invite others whom you think may benefit. Don't have much to wrap, then prepare to help others. Wrapping paper and tape will be available. Please feel free to donate any wrapping materials if you feel led.

Health goals

Pray and think about the goals that God has for your life. He has many, but one of the areas we concentrate on in Walk and Talk is our health. How do you think God wants us to care for ourselves? What steps are we taking to be the best person we can be?

See you Tuesday!!

Keep up with Cornerstone Events!
