Galatians 5
Seek out your own Fruits of the Spirit.
Doing the right thing doesn't always feel joyful or orderly. And it may not please those around us. However, through God's wisdom and guidance, we should find peace in recognizing growth in our lives and those around us.
Our children are not always happy with the decisions we make for them. However, we manage their disappointment because we know our actions are usually best for them in the long run. When they grow up and thrive, their success becomes the fruit of our labor.
God created the Ten Commandments not to take joy from our lives, but to protect us from ourselves and others. By following the commandments, we create a positive environment where we can thrive. Our thriving is the fruit of His labor.
Developing good fruit requires work: prayer, fasting, self-control, and a daily willingness to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
Examine the fruit around us. If we feel lacking, ask God to help us see the fruit and guide us in producing better fruit in His name.
Discussion Summary and Comments
We discussed the importance of not assuming that those around us have a personal relationship with Christ.
When we have a personal relationship with Christ in whom we regularly speak aloud, worship, acknowledge for His blessing, it's so much easier to speak about Him to other people. He will just naturally enter into conversations.
It is also important to be prepared to lead others to Christ.
Sandra explained examples on how easy it is to allow Christ to enter our discussions organically, especially when He puts it on our hearts to speak to others. She meets many different people at a job that allows the space for conversations and she tries to take advantage of those moments to ensure that they know she has a relationship with Jesus.
She gave a number of questions to ask someone who thinks they are ready to know Christ: (And I expect her to correct me if I have gotten anything wrong.)
Do you believe God is real and He is the creator of all?
Do you believe that when man sinned in the Garden of Eden we disobeyed God and we all deserve death?
Do you believe that Jesus is the son of God who came in the form of man, lived a perfect life and died for our sins?
Do you believe that He rose again defeating death and giving us an opportunity to accept Him and the sacrifice He made for us into our lives, cleansing us of all our sins?
If the person says yes to all of these questions then have them repeat all the above questions as statements.
If you have any concerns, doubts, disbeliefs about any of these questions, ask God to answer or deliver you from them. He most certainly will take the time to do it because He is your creator, knows everything about you and values you in every way no matter how you feel about yourself or Him.
And of course you are more than welcome to contact me, anyone in the Walk and Talk Group (cause we have some awesome, non-judgmental sisters) or any of the pastors at Cornerstone to discuss your concerns.
Don't miss out on your God-given ability to produce and/or recognize fruit because of self doubt or misunderstandings.

It was a success!! Thank you everyone who brought a dish on such a beautiful day. This wasn't a table full of hors d'oeuvres! This was real food. Jerk chicken, hot spicy bean dish, homemade biscuits, green bean casserole, corn, cake, cookies, and I know that I am leaving something out! But it was awesome. Sorry for those of you who could not make it but be assured we will have another. |
